Additional Information about Ackermann Laparoscopy Portfolio

Laparoscopy

Over the past 30+ years Ackermann has developed a comprehensive portfolio of laparoscopic instruments designed to provide all the tools needed to assist with modern days procedures. From monopolar laparoscopic instruments to specialty items such as needle drivers crafted from light-weight aluminum the range comprises of thousands of items all 100% made in Germany. Ackermann prides itself on having gained leadership not just in terms of market share and variety but also technological advancement. Today, Ackermann laparoscopic instruments are being used daily by clinicians across the globe and the team will gladly assist with creating individualized sets for not just standard applications such as a cholecystectomy or an appendectomy but also more advanced procedures such as a colectomy or nephrectomy.

“We have understood that there is no such thing as the one perfect instrument that suits all. This is why we currently manufacture 106 different types of laparoscopic Metzenbaum scissors alone. And if you are looking

for a 107th variation we will try to make it happen.” [Peter Grassl, CEO]

The Ackermann lines of laparoscopic instruments

are designed to achieve the least possible movement between parts to provide better tactile feedback to the surgeon. The handles of our laparoscopic tools offer a finger tang for better dexterity and larger finger rings for less fatigue. With more than 250 different jaw patterns, Ackermann offers a full array of instruments. Furthermore, Ackermann craftsmen are able to shape any jaw for the surgeons need, making the selection of laparoscopic instruments extensive, but not limited.
The milled RadelTM shaft insulation provides superior patient's safety, performance and durability compared to shrink tubing and therefore lower maintenance costs. Full 360° rotation is supporting one-finger control.
Clinical trials have shown that Ackermann inserts for laparoscopic tools have lasted over 25 consecutive applications - a remarkable number especially when using scissor inserts! Our design incorporates special rivets and screws for lateral pressure to develop tension added to the blades’ sharpness in order to deliver longer lifetime and higher performance, all adding up to an industry-leading and very competitive costs per procedure of our high-quality laparoscopic instruments.

“We appreciate how critical central sterile technicians are to the performance of our instruments and how little time they have. Therefore, our XPress LockTM laparoscopic hand instruments assemble and disassemble intuitively within a few seconds.” [Edward Müller, R&D]

Laparoscopic instruments: Reusable vs. Disposable?

It is widely known that reusable laparoscopic instruments offer superior quality at substantially lower cost-per-use over its disposable counter parts. They do not require as much valuable storage space in central sterile and are much more environmentally friendly. On the other hand, single-use laparoscopic instruments eliminate the need for reprocessing, maintenance and repairs without bearing any risk of contamination.
This conflict is heavily debated within the medical community for decades without ever presenting a clear winner, all solutions of using laparoscopic tools seem to have its pros and cons.
We at Ackermann know that the world isn’t just black and white, reusable and disposable. The human eye is able to distinguish between more than 500 shades of grey. Therefore, we do not just offer multiple solutions in both fields but also a full range of hybrid instruments that form a perfect symbiosis in order to maximize performance AND efficiency.
